Thread up the tip section - something to be said for 2 piece rods! I saw Charles Jardine throw a full WF8 with about 3' tip section at a Game Fair in the UK a few years ago. I was pretty impressed with this 'till I saw the post about Lefty casting with his fist.

Juro's technique looks effective for playing fish (my Loomis GLX did the same thing to me back in September) but I bet it's a bitch to cast!

(BTW, I still love Loomis).

50 feet from shore.. do the lefty method or use what I can from my rod, as the other threads say...wait that's to easy, how about this ,take 40 feet of flyline including tippet and fly and tie a rock around the fly line at the 20 foot merk. throw the the rock as far as the line will let you.. rock sinks...20 feet of line now in play and start retreving.

Remove the duct tape that is holding my stripping basket together (after it blew out of the back of a boat on Rt. 151 and was promptly run over by a Mass Highway Dept truck) and tape the rod back together...

If required, take various small straight peices of driftwood and whip/nailknot into place with spare flourcarbon tippet to act as splint/brace for broken area.

Catch many fish and go by McGuyver (sp?) for rest of fishing career.

I bet you that if you just fished the non-broken sections of your rod you could make a decent cast if you used the surface tension of the water to help you get some line out of the rod (in effect shooting line). I saw an old timer on Joppa one day making some seriously long casts by letting his fly hit the water on both the forward and back casts. If you used the same casting technique with a broken rod then you could get some line out there to those fish.

The other solution, grab my kayak from the roof of my Subaru.

A slightly more serious adaptation of jeffg's method

: overlap the two sections by around a foot or so, THEN pull out the duct tape- ought to give you a ~7' rod that will cast adequately for a while....

Ya Marvin that duct tape should hold....until a bluefish latches on to your fly.
