I have to admit to being a bit fired up about the Spring Clave. Trying to temper my enthusiasm. Though I do have a potential caveat, as of now I am commited to the weekend and plan to get an early start on Friday, the 18th.

I'll probably loosen up a bit this weekend on the Bass River.
Regards,

Fred -

Boy I am fired up too. Since the stripers are so late I think the timing is going to be ideal!

Juro and Roop, let me know if you want to do something at CAC, Either a stop mid day after the closing or a stop by before or after lunch at Fishing the Cape. If you think there is no time ,no problem. Also... for those who can not stay at the lodge because of late registration, CAC will be avaiable. Jimmy fro NJ indicated that he may stay there and there is room for others. I can have coffee and sandwiches after closing ceremonies as a fortification for the ride home.. just let me know.

Nice job Juro, as usual.

Looking forward to getting into fish again, seeing the regulars again and meeting the new faces.

I guess we're lucky for the late kick-off (post Mothers day) due to the weather we've been having. Should be a blast!

John, I'm a bit confused. Which of the two are you attending?

Update: The Saturday lunch activity is still being planned, we'll be doing something bigger with Fishing the Cape a bit later in the season. That's not to say we won't stop by to see Bob Benson and pick up materials and say hello, I definitely will be. We won't be taking over his parking lot for the cookout this time though.

I suggest a cookout back at the Chatham Anglers Club or back at the Anchorage waterfront. This will be a good chance to get some casting lessons for those who did not make the casting clave.

Also a great chance to be all in one place to meet each other and share the findings of the morning. We always improve our success by sharing what we learned thru the course of the clave.

Any ideas from those attending are welcome.

Man,

The clave cannot arrive soon enough for me. I simply feel the need to be in the salt with a scrappy fish on the line. A welcome endorphin rush.

That being said, you would think that I do not need any motivation to bail from work on Friday the 18th and meet up with the scouts. Truth is that I do need some motivation. Who is planning on heading out and scouting on the 18th? Are there any solid plans yet. Please motivate me to bail from work.

Thanks,

I'm thinkin' scouting is part of my moral obligation to the cause ;-) Not sure but I think I can swing at least a half-day to get down there early enough to catch a few casts before the sun sets.

I'll let you know as the date nears.

A barbeque is a great idea. I remember last year when the tide ran out, we all kind of scattered looking for food. I'll have to look into the tides for this season.

Gathering at either the Anchorage or CAC would be a good idea. I'll also look into the town of Dennis letting us use the parking lot at the Bass River. It was 90% deserted last year.

Mike, I could pretty easily be talked into ditching work early(or altogether) on the 18th to do a bit of scouting. I've been working some pretty crazy hours lately and I figure they owe me some time.

If we decide to skip work and make a day of it on friday we could probably even car pool down from Concord.

I am in for Friday 18th - fishing the Canal a.m. This is more of an experiment than a scouting trip. I plan to head out to find the rest of the scouts in the afternoon.

Having not been to one of these before, should I bring anything other than gear - e.g. Eggs, Bacon, Coffee etc or do the local breakfast houses open early enough? Also, anything else which would be helpful.

Juro,

I signed up for the clave and I even went so far as to say that I will be there on Friday evening for a scouting mission.

I hope to see you there Juro.

Matt, we can chat about car pooling as the clave gets closer. Sounds like a great idea.

Matt, or anyone else, I want you to know that once to schoolies arrive at Plum Island I will most definitely be heading out for some pre and post work jaunts to Newburyport. I would love to meet up with some of you guys when I do make it out on the water.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm experiencing clave envy!

Bro' will the new gear be in your possession in time?

Roop, Juro, etc......I'll see if I can wrangle some complimentary libations for my brother to pick up on his way down. If I can't make it in person I'll make sure I'm represented in liquid form. Juro, I'm also extremely tardy in forwarding my membership money as well as the $40 I owe for myself and my friend Greg's "no-show" at the casting clave. I'll make sure Mike shows up with a check AND, more importantly, some beer!

All the best,

Thanks for the offer - no need to make up for the no-show... the libations alone will more than suffice. If you do send the check down with Mike I will have a couple of extra hats made up w/ Chili Bear for the kids who didn't get one at the casting clave. I gave several of the kids hats because they asked with those puppy dog eyes, but I didn't take care of them all in all the hustle and bustle.

I really hope you do make it though... if you do you will be treated with a free casting lesson from one of the most experienced instructors on the Cape. Todd Murphy has offered to meet up with us at the Anchorage.
