Hi Guys and Maybe a Gal or Two

The shad are in big time down here and I love to fling flies their way. Amybody have any favorite flies or thoughts on designing flies for shad?

I'd like to trade recipes.

Since most of the posters are from Washington--Seattle area==how far north do the shad go? Is the Columbia their northern limit?

Eric,

Where is there access to swing a fly? Everywhere I've checked it out has too many folks. I'd like to try the 7136 for shad. Any suggestions? I live in Portland.

thanks

Hey Eric,

I think the Columbia is about their northern limit. Don't know of any shad runs up in this area (or north).

I'd be up for a spontaneous Clave, tho. Break out the 7136 and have at 'em!! Maybe we could secure a stretch below Bonneville and designate it Fly Fishing Only for the day <g> Seriously -any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

hasta,

RE:Shad Flies--Access

Andre:

I live in Oregon City, so Clackamette Park is a convenient access point for me. There's a short stretch just in front of the Rivershore Motel that is far enough away from other anglers that I can usually work in there with a fly. I use a high-density shooting head to get down. There's no real room for a backcast there, but the shad are within 30 feet of the bank, so you don't need to cast much farther than that.

I used to find shad in the Clackamas in the big, slow pools in the lower river. Some of my favorite places have filled in, and I need to find some new areas on this river. I'm sure the shad are there, but haven't been able to score yet.

Bradford Island, at Bonneville, used to be a notorious shad fly-fishing venue. Again, don't know anything about it, recently.

Obviously, I need to go fishing more.

Eric,

Let's get out thar and do this thing. I'm sure Brian will come down from Seattle. While driving up the Columbia I've wondered about wading some of the areas off the points. Let me know how your schedule looks or give me a call, I could get out a couple evenings?

How deep are you fishing? I'd love to try them on the 7136 although the tip sounds like the limiting factor.
