When I was there on Friday I picked up the book and got him to sign it for me. Since there was no crowd I watched him tie several flies and asked questions. One of which atleast helped me. I always us a coffee stirer to mix and apply my apoxy.. He said he would be lost without his bodkin. I know people use bodkins to mix apoxy but since I just started tieing I just go with the coffee thing. Well, I just finished twelve surf candies in various colors and used the bodkin for the apoxy.. Many of you probably already know this but the bodkin approach was perfect for this kind of fly and more importantly... no bubbles at all. Dried clear and the bodkin application ,i.e. one apprlication, then form the fly ,then a second application forming it slowly as I turned the rotary vice, they came out perfect and really clear.. I think I will use the bodkin from now on on all my flies. I pretty muched copied his flies from the book and will work on some longer ones . Also, I will pick up some photo flow so that I can experiment on the spread flies.
