SPORTSMAN FOR HUGE STRIPERS

There is good striper fishing now because some men took time to fight for it.
So don't do the following or you are an idiot killing tomorrow's fish:

1. Don't drag your fish up into the sand

2. Don't throw it or kick it back into the water, slide it in gently

3. Handle the fish by the lower lip, don't squeeze it by the sides

4. If the hook is swallowed, cut the line- a 10 cent hook is not worth 1 schoolie

5. Cut treble hooks on plugs down to one hook, no need for 9 hooks slashing the sides of a fish that's supposed to be released

6. Don't leave trash behind

7. Help out, spread the word, keep the fishing good

Terry, I will run some copies off and secure them to places around the Chatham Lighthouse... I will also put some in strategic areas in downtown Chatham... places like the community bulletin boards, etc.

It would help to edit the .doc a bit. Center the Sportman... title, use bold fonts, clean it up, you know the drill.

Been seeing some mistreatment lately perhaps? Too bad people just don't get the connection between a healthy release and the years to come, as you point out.

How 'bout...

1) Printing up some tide charts with these C&R tips on the back?

2) Giving a talk at the next fly show called "the Secret to Huge Stripers" and having it be a talk about lettin' them go right ;D

The tide chart idea is a good one.

One place I would target would be the cape cod canal. The concentration of fish and level of angling pressure at this location means that you see a great deal of inappropriate fish handling.

It's catching on. Others on other boards are printing and stapling. I did 4 this am at P.I and also witnessed a half dozen maulings of schoolies.
Don't debate, print and staple, get the word out. No confrontations necesary.
