Sorry, I couldn't resist. While no flats stalking involved, Beantown is fishing pretty well, especially compared to alst year. Fished yesterday from 6:00am to noon. Prowled the southern half of the harbor (usually much less crowded) and found some nice fish down deep. Marked TONS of bait coming out of the Back River, which is a great sign. Herring patterns worked all morning. Water was just shy of 60 degrees, and slightly cloudy, so we used bright or shiny patterns.

NO gratuitous surface activity, but there were fish in many of the usual structure/current spots. my brother took his first of the year at a solid 33", which I consider a great Boston bass. Took a few more in the 28-30" range, and while it is only my first outing up here, the average length seems up--hope it is a trend!

Sounds GREAT! I know you are kidding but the real reason behind the propensity to a particular area of Cape Cod is that without a boat Beantown can be a little iffy to shore fish.

Although the spots you mention offer some bigtime access around the mouth...

You are right Juro--Boston really is much easier by boat, although there is good opportunity through the ferries out to the islands etc. Chatham fishing is awesome, esp. for the shore bound. Just want people to realize that the rocky cold water up here has a lot to offer for those who can't make the trek down south, and it really is a whole different way of fishing in terms of bait and structure--variety is the spice of life.

I agree. I read Eroach's harbor trip reports with a yearning to see fish emerging from the rocks again. Smitty took me out to the Brewsters first time ever when I was a teenager. He was live-lining huge pogies and those bass (albeit rare) were huge. He caught 2 50+ pound fish that year.

We have been talking about an island ferry clave for a few years now. I got a brochure from the group who are promoting recreational use out there and it's quite extensive.

What we need is a sponsor to call the urban assault clave!
