You are too early for the steelhead runs that VanIsle is famous for. You have a couple of options, you can look for some coho action in the Cowichan for instance or if steelhead are necessary you could go up and across island to Port Alberni and the Stamp River's summer runs (and salmon). The latter would be my choice I think.
