I went just 5 days ago and caught a ton of steelies they were everywhere and yesterday i walked 3 miles of stream and didnt see a one! when i got to the mouth i saw tons of them jumping and bigger ones than i saw in the stream. First why would they just all of the sudden make a mad dash for the lake in 5 days and why would they be jumping i thought they jumped to dislodge eggs

Guess that's why they call it fishin! I think they jump for a lot of reasons, and only a few of them we really understand. I for one can't even figure out why they slam the fly one minute and turn their noses up the next. Steelhead are very quirky fish and that's part of the reason they are so awesome to fish for. You really feel like you score when you get one on.

So what do you fish for when the steelies go back into the lake Josh? Being a teenager I assume you do get the summer off to chase other species like smallmouth bass, largemouth, pike, etc?
yeah i fish for trout, bass, and pike. I usually do spin fishing for them though. i do do some trout fly fishing during the summer but mainly spin cause i fish on big lakes.
