Noisy Stripping?

I am using a LL Bean Quest 7wt with orvis bass wonderline and when I strip the line it seems to be loud. I usually fish a 5wt and I have never noticed it before. I was wondering if it is normal to have scraping sounds on larger lines? If so does the sound transmit through the water? Or is it just a cheap rod?

A couple of possibilities for the noise:

1. Dirty or separated coating on the flyline. Observation will tell you if this is the problem.
2. Worn or grooved guides. Run a piece of your wife/girlfriends pany hose thru the guides. If it catches, its the problem.

If it is a steady, high-pitched noise, it is harmonics setup between the guides and line. I've seen it on other combos.

I doubt the noise has an effect on fish catching.

I would suggest that the young lady should turn the music down and strip quietly. :lildevl:
