Question Bonaventure in September

I am planning a trip with my wife the first week of September. I was wondering if maybe Topher or Brian or anyone else in the know can offer up a couple of suggestions for patterns and fly size for this time of year. The trip/vacation will only allow me to fish a couple of days so I would like to do all that is possible to improve my chances. I fished this river in June of 1997, the numbers were low but we caught just the same, have the numbers increased or decreased over the past few years?
Thanks for all your input.

Dear RobJon,

The Bonaventure in early September can be grand. It's a good idea to prepare for a wide range of water conditions and salmon taking behavior.

For medium to low water, bring the usual complement of small (sz. #6-10) wet flies in the usual patterns: Ruelland Special, Green Stonefly, Pompier, Black Bear Green Butt, Black Ghost, Undertaker.

Don't forget to also bring some big stuff: #2 Muddlers, Popsicle-style flies, large streamers (you can get some high water in September). The salmon also begin to respond well to larger flies again about this time.

Try the "E" Sector, limited to 4 rods. I've had great fishing there in September. Tight lines, TB

I'll echo Topher's recommendations and will add Stoneflies in BOTH green and black winged versions,Trotinettes in all white and Flor, green body - black wing,a version of the Black Bear Green Butt =Build up Florgreen butt to about 3 times body.wing VERY sparce and scruffy sparce Muddler head.Big # 2 Bombers making sure to tye the STIFF hackle on by the butt and winding forward,Cartah's Bug in # 4.Best Muddler is the Smoke(dark fine gray deer body in wing and same ,except coarser in muddler head)
