Emergers
A while back we were talking about emerger patterns. Here's one that has worked very well for me.
The GKF Emerger is tied with fibers from a snowshoe hare's foot. The hair from near the heel area works well for the tail and wing and even the underfur can be used for dubbing the body. Snowshoe hare dyes well so one can imitate the different colors of emerging bugs. Snowshoe hare is buoyant so one can fish these in the film and then pull it under at the end of the swing to fish just under the surface as an emerging caddis (for instance). Easy to tie, durable, and catches fish... what else can one ask for? |

the ones you see there are size #14. This material lends itself best for sizes #14 and smaller. When tied in the appropriate size and color it can imitate any sort of emerger (caddis, mayfly, stonefly). It is meant to be a suggestive pattern. I've never tied with nutrina so can't tell about the qualities of that fur. Fred Reese's shop in PA and Bryant Freeman's shop in New Brunswick sell snowshoe hare feet in several colors. |
