Fly'in for Bass
Well I have been leaning more toward poppers than flies for bass. I see that I can make more of a commotion with a popper on the film than a fly. Catching nice little 1-1.5 lb smallies in Dunkens creek does it for me, but I think i'll try for some bigger ones next. My creek[not Dunkens] only has a small percentage of bluegill, and carp and creek chubs dominate so I cant do it there. Even when the creek dried up, still no evidence of rock bass or any other kind. I also have had no experience with "wet flies" I have read that you need a special sinking line and split shot. Won't the fly fall to fast??? Thanks for your time

Try a small white and chartruese clouser. Size 8 or so with small gold eyes. I caught a pile of sunfish, crappies and some small mouth bass tonight on one. I even got a couple pickerel. I also got some on a Clouser dressed like a Black Nosed Dace.

Buggers
Here in MI I use bunny buggers and buggers made with mohair in medium to large sizes. Usually olive, brown, and black. The weedless sculpin imitations I tied in Montana for fishing the MO seem to work very good also.

Oh, and by the way...
I used to use crayfish patterns a lot in Montana. I used a sinking line and super tiny split shot. It seemed to work as far as catching fish but can make casting an absolute nightmare! (at least for me anyways)

Fishing wet flies does not require a sinking line or even split shot. With that considered the fly that you are fishing can fall at any rate you please. It does pay to carry split shot for fishing deeper spots, but you should be able to take most if not all fish without a sinking line.
