Yes Warren they do....they see Gary's chatreuse creations from Morris island and yell over to NM...very distracting!!! ![]() "If it's natural, it ain't no use" !!! Have see his wedding pic...chartreuse tux. Pete....tied a 2nd one...came out really well......tied it in tan for the flats...liked the double bead chain idea....got rid of the mini rattle and it lays flat now. Will try olive next...for some reason, almost every shrimp fly I have caught a striper on, has been olive...go figure. I really think this fly will produce....thanks for figuring it out. Ron PS: put it in your book |

Thanks...that was helpful! just came up from the dungeon....successful, but not an easy tie in trying to figure out materials and steps....2nd time will be easier. The only deviation I did from your creation, was to use a mini rattle on the bottom as a keel and attractant. Now we can both fish the phlats and have people come up to us and say..."what the *&^%$#@! is that? ![]() |

'Phree lance phoundation... Playin' around with a "double wide" large bead chain application... 'more robust lower CG mass and a phat phootprint... 'Buck tail mixed with DNA olive w/phlash to shroud the ugly bottom... then I turned it right-side-up and added more of the same to form a sparse body... and phinished off with the phlank pheatherz phuselage... What with the wing phluff up top [aerodynamic drag] and the weight down low [strategic CG]... this just may swim and bottom hop... 'considering a tan conservative muted version for the phlatz... Pete...my apology...just took a closer look at the fly and you did use 2 hackles at angles to each other...duh!!!! it also looks like you used deer hair (bottom, near eye) to act as a keel??????????????? Down to the dungeon for me to give it a shot...thanks. Ron |

Pete....that looks like a "whazatt" to me......different, looks edible (to me anyway)........shrimp?...crab? ......I like it!!!! Thanks for giving your creative juices a go AND for not laughing at the idea. Like the coloration as well. Will give it a try and also will consider using 2 thinner hackles at 45 degree angles to each other for "shell"..........did you weight it other than the plastic or bead chain eyes? Ron |

Why is it that in my mind, I picture Peter Scissor-Hands in his tying suite surrounded and up to his neck in pheathers, with only his neck and head visible? ![]() I just got up from my tying table.......I was unsuccessful in trying to tie something that I would have called a "whazatt".....a combo shrimp/crab fliy. At present it is only a crapzatt. Motivation was to tie something that was something fish are not used to seeing, but resembled something edible. Next attempt will be a canned corn fly ![]() Pete...if you think it is a good idea, give it a try and post. If not...stop laughing ![]() Ron |

Pete, with the keel hook would those still sink fast to the bottom and stay there ..stripped along the sand....???? will they not turn sideways? They look top heavy and not balanced at the hook shank..just a question? As a dumbell eye will do. |

In Marks post as in this...I plan on doing some of these with that tuff stuff you have done...but I will put clouser eyes in them.....they will not be as pretty ,and will be a little "bugged" eye..but I will want the hook riding up so as to not dull it in the bottom or snag, etc. |
