Name That Fly Game

Hey all,

We've been developing a new fly fishing game called "Name That Fly". We are nearing completion of the game and would appreciate you guys coming over and taking it for a test drive. The final version will showcase all the high scores and will have other features that this version does not have. Right now we concentrating on adding new flies to the database to make the game more challenging. Anyway come on over and check it out and would would really appreciate some feedback.

Will thats a good game. My score was lower than I thought I would do after screwing up the tropical & salmon patterns.

Thanks for testing it John. You were the first person to ever play the game besides us so now you have something to tell your grand children! J.K. Glad you liked it. We only have a little over 200 patterns in the game right now and our target goal is around 500 for starters.

John, must have one of those good corporate jobs where you get to write "White Papers" with no due dates. Aaaah I thought I would be doing that at this time in my corporate career but since getting designated to the "Corporate Marines Platoon" I get nothing but the complex time critical projects for 7 years now.

Angry

Hal no its not that. Just waiting for action by multiple people on multiple projects on multiple fronts.

Ps: white papers aren't good if you can't state your case in 30 seconds.

Thumbs up That was fun!

Cool game Will. I played twice and did much better the second time. Of course, the main reason I did better was because a couple of the flies were repeated in the second round and I actually remembered the correct answers. :hehe:

If there is a way to modify the game to allow you to select "No Repeats" that might be a nice addition. Then again, when you get the repeats you're more likely to learn what the flies are if you didn't already know. Also, I think there may be a typo in one of the answer choices. The choice said "Libby Hosrse" and I wonder if the second word is supposed to be "Horse".

Thanks for the link!

Quentin,

Hey thanks for the info on the typo. The main reason your getting duplicates is that there are only 200 patterns in the database. The program select 20 random patterns, and chances are you will get some duplicates. We was just opening the game up for questions/comments and will probably shut it back off after this weekend to add more patterns.

That's an awesome idea! I actually have programmed another version of it where it has a clock that counts down and when it reaches 0:00 then the game is over. I like your idea even better though!

Great Game...

Will,
Great game. With only northeast salt experience it was pretty tough for me but I really like the idea. Have you considered allowing the player to choose a category as a future enhancement?

Smcdermott,

Yea we thought about building that into the game. The only problem is we would need around 500 flies per category do keep the same flies from repeating. We have had trouble just trying to find the flies that we got now. I like the idea and will keep it in mind for future versions.

Neat game!

Enjoyed it. The posts above cover virtually all of my remarks.

Although I am not used to salmon flies and salt water flies, I still got 8!

One question - the gray fox pattern looks NOTHING like my old reliable gray fox (Art Flick version) - my box has at least a dozen that I tie up (along with Hendrickson's, BWOs, light Cahills, etc.) and they are not even close. Just wondering????

Just letting everyone know that we are taking the game down for a while to add some more patterns to the database. We thank everyone for coming out to test it out and appreciate all the feedback we received. We should have it back for the official launch very soon.
