Wow..thanks for pointing that out Fred... If I were down there I would be checking that out... great stuff. Love reading about the geology and in this case combined with the Archeology.

beach marches on

Fred,

We had the same thing on North Monomoy back around 1993. In the area of Broad Creek on the east side of the island were you find the pads of mud. There use to be a deep channel against the beach, up against that last dune. The small one they close every year for the Plovers. The channel ran to the back side of the island, great for drifting pogies. The channel got cut off when it started to fill with sand. The mud on the bottom of the channel was exposed for a while and you could see two distinct wagon wheel tracks and horse shoe marks between them. Obviously, it was a single horse wagon set up. It was kind of erie, when my friend Ray and I found them. It made you think of all the people that have come and gone and the activities that have gone on there.

Keith -

I've seen them too - I thought they were some strange result of currents or winds over the years, pretty amazing!

I had two guys out with me last June over that way and found a very heavy worn-out coin in the peat. I gave it to Jim for luck, he did very well that day. I wonder if he ever shined that thing up?

I'll give him a call...

Jim tried to clean it up, but it was w-o-r-n almost to the point of being unrecognizable. He did say that it had the denomination of "2", whatever currency. it was very heavy in the hand, that I remember.
