I have one of ken's saddles. They are very nice. However there are alot of saddles that can sub. (Ken's saddles are by whiting .)
I have used Cabelas premium saddles by whiting, Metz saddles and I have found several that are no name brands at different fly shops.
I buy white ,grizzly and silver badger and dye them myself.
I will be searching the NJ fly show next month for sutible saddles.
The length is determined by the bait your trying to copy. I tie them as small as 2".

"Yellow Jacket" Fly

Mike,

Another beautiful fly. I particularly like the chartreuse badger. Is that a home-dyed silver badger? If so, what dyes are you using? The results look great!

This color combination looks like a real winner to me. I expect the fish will strongly agree.

Best regards,

-Doc

Doc,
I dye all my own materials. I used veniard dyes. I mixed my own chartruse, a little green w/ yellow.

Mike

Quick question: How close is the picture color rendition to the actual colors of the dye saddles?

the colors are pretty on.The chartruse badger is a little greener, the flash washed it out. Same on the collar.
