7/1 Bayside

Hiked past Fred's favorite creek spot & worked my way out on a big bar as the tide dropped to the mouth of another creek. Picked up fish the whole way out. Used the standard deep eel technique. Biggest fish was 30", not "MASSIVE" but he had shoulders & spirit.

Since the weather had drastically improved, I stripped off the waders and extra gear at dead low for a swim in the creek. I had the place to myself and was loving life. As I sat there drying off, enjoying the cookies & water for lunch and making plans on how to fish the creek mouth, I turn around and notice I'm not alone anymore.

More & more people were walking out on the now exposed flat, many with rods & rakes. I hurried to get my act together and take position for the flood. The flood didn't quite produce as I'd hoped, the eels slingers had limited success, myself and another fly guy were skunked. Still an awesome day with a rather anti-climatic ending.

Funny, after all the other people had invaded "MY PLACE" I thought how other people get all bitchy about a situation like this. It must be different on the other side of the Cape. No crowding, everyone behaved themselves. Some people really make me laugh.

Have a geat 4th!

30" nice fish, my largest over the weekend was 25, one was caught at barnstable harbor during the flood, another one was caught at Wellfleet.

Jeff,
Sounds like you did Sunday what I wished I did Saturday. Spent a little time on the beach at the western terminus of the bar both days, early. My rowdy siblings and there rowdy spouses were down for the weekend so I had to be sociable. Tried to convince them we should go to said beach, but they wanted to go to Corporation Beach (concern about parking).

I even like to go out on the bar in the middle of the day when I "know" there ain't no fish and flail a bit and shoot the breeze with passer bys.

Fred A.

I would like to do a day when a few of us stay out on the outer bars with yaks, canoes, etc - anything that we can use to get back in later in the flood stage than we do on foot.

Any interest in this? We can plan something out if there is enough interest.

Juro et al,

I would be interested in a kayak/canoe affair. I am also sure that my Dad/brother would like to be involved since we have another yak.

Just letting you know.

I have two spots in mind that should be kill-er and would require a little multi-vehicular cooperation to pull off. We did an awesome job at the yakbone last year, looked like a navy seal operation. Maybe a drunk navy seal, or at least a seal ;-)

No competition or invasion (pun intended) because there are no other people out there at this tide.

Sounds like a good time if the date works out. I have a spare canoe if someone want's to borrow it for the trip. You'd have to pick it up here at the house because I cannot fit both the yak and canoe on the jeep.
