Classic Saltwater #21-- Black Phantom

A fly still very much in use today and developed by Russ Chatham. You can see the similarities with the streamer influence and the palming of the hackle at the eye...a common thread in many early flys:

I think I see the precursor of the Semper Fleye here.....pretty much the same, but the tail isn't tied in the round.

What a great night fly.

Yes...Mark the only difference I see is that the Hackles are wider and the palmed hackles are not tied down to face the tail as much as the Semper fly.

Tied w/ the hackles in the round or with a spun deer head (like a snake fly on steroids) this fly is deadly at night in the suds....DEADLY.
