Quinny

I was 1 for 2 tonight getting a nice 19 inch salmon. The water for the Quabin was turned back on and there is the usual current going through.

Fishing the Quinny is very tough you might get one fish every ten or so times you go there.

The Quinny isn't tough, its the salmon that are. I drove past it last night @ ~ 6:45 and it looked like there was some insect activity down by the parking area. family constraints kept me heading home or I'd have a better idea of what it was. The Stillwater looked real low @ the singing bridge.

Craig,
Can salmon move upstream of the Quinny pumphouse? I had heard that the fishladder (or lack of) was going to be upgraded. Any reports yet as to salmon running up the stillwater?
Thanks, DennisS

Fish ladder

I have heard they are going to upgrade the ladder also, but not sure of any details.

I have not heard of any action in the stillwater.

Picked up another salmon tonight. Came up to the surface, saw the take and then the fight was on. It was 20 inches around 3 lbs. First fish I have gotten in three days. Like John says the salmon are tough to get, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you hook up.

I have to confess that I haven't hit the Quinny since March. And even then I was well upstream of where your fishing. Now, years ago when I lived in Clinton & my wife was at grad school a couple of nights a week that was a different story.

Springville Mills?

John,

Have you been to Springville Mills on the Quinny? I did not know that there was a community living up there years ago.

I don't know where Springville Mills is so I may have been there without knowing it. I do know of one spot where there are a lot of clasps for bras & garters that looks like an old factory site.

There are many old abandoned settlements along trout streams. Typically you find the cellar holes, and occassionally old breached dams. H'mm I know of an old breached dam on the Quinny in Holden. Maybe thats Springville Mills. Another example of an abandoned village is in the Bertuzzi WMA. along the Squannacoock.
