Monomoy 6/10

Mike and I spent the day yesterday cruising all around South Monomoy. Craig couldn't make it so we were on our own.

Short and sweet. We saw a gazillion bass - Yes I did count them - and they were fussy on the take. A good number of them - perhaps a majority - were easily keeper size and many were fish of a lifetime size. I ended up with a couple of keeper sized 28" and 32" and we had some other good sized schoolies and blues thrown in to spice things up. Most of what we did was sight fishing and my favorite was running down the beach to head of a pod - we did that for a couple hours on the tip.

We saw Todd Murphy out there with some guests and it looked like he was living up to his rep by getting them into fish.

Gregg -

Somehow I missed this post until now. Glad you broke in the new rod on a good fish, how did it perform?

I am jealous, my version of heading off a pod is...

trudge back to the shore, run like hell, wade out and wait... dOh, they must've headed out to the drop off as I was splashing!! ;-)

The rod worked great! I just love it - so easy to cast and worlds away from the beast I had before. On the down side it doesn't have the "backbone" my last rod had and it takes a bit longer to bring the fish in.

I hear you on the wading to head off a pod. Against our better judgement we went to monomoy again on Sunday and were greeted by a strong southerly wind so we were forced to stay inside. While wading the flats I saw a pod coming my way but its course would be out of my casting range with the wind. I tried to wade at an angle to head them off but I just couldn't move fast enough. Frustrating!

Oops! Terry you are right. The initial report was for 6/9 and I was writing in on 6/10. On 6/10 we spent the day at the very southern part of the South Beach side, were you on Monomoy Island? I guess I should have been a bit more specific but for the most part I consider that whole area Monomoy.

I think we were on South Beach. We got off at the drop off. Juro and Olddoogue wade in and immdediatley spot a cruising school. Bang big fish landed by Juro. So we stayed there pretty much. I was on the beach in clusterf%$& mode changing my clothes. I'm so supersticious lately I believe that was why that school came by, simply because I was temporarily out of the action (well a little).
