9/11 one year later

I realize that this is a flyfishing board, but I think that it's appropriate for our community to acknowledge the significance of this day. One year ago our perception of the world and our own security changed in a very profound way, and thousands of lives were lost. Suffice it to say that I am thinking about all of those who lost loved ones and friends in the tragedies, and that it is imperative that we see each other as American brothers and sisters.

I don't want to get corny or cliche, so I'll leave it at that. God bless.

Banging in.

God, have mercy on the souls of the lost, show compassion and love for their surviving families and friends, and protect those who protect us. Amen.

Amen

In addition to our prayers for those who were affected, I'd like to also express the deepest gratitude and respect for those who put their loyalty and dedication to saving lives ahead of their own lives and welfare in the hell that followed the attacks.

From my own perspective I vividly recalled all of the events occurring as I retraced the steps I took one year ago on what I thought was going to be a fine September day. I remembered a parking lot full of people still in their cars stunned and unable to turn off the radio in shock. I remember the internet and phone systems becoming useless and a helpless feeling thinking about relatives and friends in the city whom I could not reach, and how my sister had moved from her Lower Manhattan apartment the day before, on 9-10. I remember the tears, fear and rage as our company gathered around the televisions we keep in the news department. But what I experienced was nothing - I can only imagine the hell that those who were directly victimized by these acts, and their loved ones felt. The whole country stands forever with them in our hearts and prayers.

We can honor them by keeping our resolve for freedom as strong as it was when the nation was founded, the very principle on which it is based.

Yes the 9/11 anniversary has been a sad day for me personally and my company. We dedicated a remembrance garden today at our Chicago HQ for the four employees we lost in the WTC collapse. One of which was a close business acquaintance of mine (John Keohane) who was hit by flying debris on the street when the first tower collapsed. My office overlooks the garden so I will see it daily. John rest in peace, I will remember you always.

My sister in law who worked two blocks from the WTC, was caught in the collapse while four blocks away in North Battery Park. She had emotional problems working near the WTC which caused her to quit her job working in NYC. My brother and her relocated to Florida a month ago.

I can only imagine the psychological and other impacts on the many families who lost loved ones at the WTC. Many of the 700 people in our NY office are hesitant about moving back to our office across from the WTC next month.

Lets pray that was the most powerful attack they could muster and that our government will pursue the terrorists as long as it takes which I suspect will be the remainder of my life time.

We can never be unprepared again.

God Bless America

The Discovey Channel last night had a great program on the lives of about 20 victims...... put faces, family ,frends and co-workers...on all those numbers we see and hear.... And there were many who were not represented but they ALL had similar stories no doubt.
