An Apology to all............BUT!

I have to extend my apologies to all who replied to my offer yesterday, I was truly sincere with my offer but unfortunately I fell asleep and did not wake up until the alarm went off at 3:00 am. , I did check my email before leaving and received an email from Penguin asking to come along. I phoned him but was unable to wake him from his slumber so I ended up solo. Not to worry though gentlemen, none of you missed anything earth shattering when it comes to action. I went to Fishers Island first where there were alot of Albies and alot of boats as well, I fished these fish for several hours until the tide started slacking. My tally was 2 fish hooked and 2 fish dropped, one was due to line wrapping around the reel on the initial run and the other one the fish ran at me after his first run and I could not take up line fast enough, next thing I know slack line and fish gone. I had many shots at these fish but they were in their typical weekend lockjaw mode. There were several boats spin fishing for them and they caught some fish but it was not as easy as it was on Thurs. By the way for those of you using both fly and spin gear try a Storm Super Fluke for the Albies, that seems to be the HOT! lure for the spin crowd. There was a guy on Thurs. who was using this lure and he caught at least 30 Albies (landed) that we could see. I went over to Weekapaug after I left Fishers and found some Tuna over that way but they were small pods and also very finicky. I saw again dozens of very LARGE bass swimming just outside the wash shadowing the schools of Baby Bunker, these fish were numerous and big. I could get them to chase the fly and the faster I moved the fly the harder they would give chase but I could not get them to actually eat the fly, VERY FRUSTRATING!!! I also met Jared from one the boards, Not sure if he posts here as well but he was in his Pathfinder flats boat, he was off of Weekapaug and had not hooked up either. It was a pleasure to meet him and finally put a name with a face, we will do it again Jared remember Fishers Island in October!!!
I just want to say that my offer to all of you still stands and if Matt, or Juro, or anyone else would like to come down to the Rhody area I would be more than happy to meet you and take you out on the boat to enjoy some Albie Frustration If you do want to hookup and fish please email me several days in advance so we can plan for it and make sure it happens, I am usually alone and having some company along is always enjoyable for me. We have 4-6 weeks of good tuna action coming up so there is plenty of time. Always is fun to meet new folks from the boards and swap stories while hopefully catching fish. I can take 2 guys at a time if there is 2 that want to go but it gets a little crowded with 3 total on the boat, we just have to be patient and understanding of each other and it will be fine. Let me know if and when anyone would like to come down and I will contact you so that we can go over the day/date/time etc.
There is tons of bait up there right now and provided we don't get any real major blows it should be good right through November so I hope some of us can get together and do some fishing I think it could be alot of fun and as I said it's always good to be able to put faces with names.

Tightlines,
Mike M.

Mike,

Thanks again for the offer. I'm certainly planning on spending some more time in Rhody this season, and a boat ride would be great.

It sounds like the fish took the weekend off just about everywhere, if they keep this up I may have to start burning vacation days to catch up with them.

-Matt

I believe you are correct on the Zoom Company, he said that he was using the Storm Super Fluke but he did not sound real convincing. Yes, I did recommend something to the spin crowd, I did not wield the spinning rod during Saturdays assault although I did have it with me I stuck with the flyrod. I would much rather catch on the flyrod than the spin rod, although both are fun and i still use the conventional tackle I would prefer to always use the flyrod. There are times though when it isn't advisable to be whipping the long rod to and fro'. In these cases I will willingly and easily breakout the spinning gear and catch fish, this is why we all are out there on the water is it not????? Catching is my primary goal and I will use whatever allows me the opportunity to accomplish this goal. With this said I will cast the flyrod for hours before giving in to the spin rod Matt check you email I sent you a message this morning.

Tightlines,
Mike M.

I appreciate the mention Mikey, I will be looking at that lure.... to see how I can tie a fly to take advantage of it's effectiveness!

Doug - we do try to live up to our name!

...There I wuz...

O'dark thirty...my dream suddenly takes an unexpected turn and a distant phone changes an already muddy storyline...
Wait...That's not la-la land calling! The phone really is ringing and I drag these olde bones down from the schlaffen loft just in time to miss the call...
Bummer...That musta' been Mike with an offer I couldn't refuse!
No message and no caller I.D. so I'm outa' luck...
'Got another few hours to sleep before I gotta' get up and on the road to catch the 0800 RipRyder...

An absolutely BEAUTIFUL day on South Beach...long about 0930 I dig my cell phone out of its' nest to see if the outside world has been calling and there it is...1 message...
It's Mike with yet another generous offer (if I was on a east RI beach he could swing in and pick me up....What'a guy!!) but the number he leaves gets digitally chopped and I can't even call back to say thanks...
So, now I'm not only NOT catching fish but I've missed the call and can't call back...Dooop!

Even though I couldn't take advantage of Mike's MAGNANIMOUS offer (in the wrong state and covered in bad luck) I was, once again, blown away by the genuine kindness of another FFF Family member...

As it turned out, the fishing at both ends was slow but the intent was GRAND!
Mike's a real gentleman and a shining example of what this wonderful board strives for...
I've never met a more kind and sharing group of friends so dedicated with a notion that each member can and does make a positive difference.
The GOOD thought and KIND offer really does go a long way!
Thanks again Mike! Soonerorlater!
Quite the Family are we!!!

Pete,
Your kind words go way above the call of duty, there is no need to lavish me with such unbelieveable compliments (blushing profusely) my offer was made with only the sincerest of thoughts. I am only sorry I could not get you up at 0300 am. so that you could sleep drive down to meet me. I have been experiencing some serious sleep deprivation myself of late and I decided to forego a Sunday trip in favor of sleeping and spending time with the wife which she enjoyed immensely. I have been inundated with requests to accompany me on the Triton to chase the elusive False Albacore we all so desire, all of these requests will be filled to the best of my ability as long as we can all coordinate our plans and what not. All I ask from those here on the board is a little patience and I am sure we can all get out there on the boat to fish at least once. We have probably a month and a half at least of Albie time left and still more than that to chase the Bass and Blues along the Rocky Rhody coast so please don't anyone fret I will be doing my best to get you all out there at some point in the next couple of weeks. I really enjoy sharing my boat with others and meeting new faces it definitely makes being out there exceptionally more enjoyable than being by myself all of the time, I do remember when I was shore bound and how much I wished I could be out there in the middle of everything with all of the boats. This is just my way of giving back to some other fisherman caught in the same "boat" i used to be in.

Tightlines,
Mike M.

Anytime you feel like a change of pace / scenery you can come down to Norwalk or Bridgeport and I'll pick you up and chase the little buggers down here. That goes for anyone on this board as well. If I can coordinate something with anyone who would like to I certainly would be more than happy to take someone out.

...win/win...

jf...Nice fishin' with you!

Saturday...Even though wires got crossed and the fishing was, shall we say, challenging...Chatham wasn't the worst thing to happen to me all week as I was surrounded by MotherNature at her finest and in the company of friends with a common passion.

On Sunday I was at Misquamicut RI for a wedding...
The scene of the crime...I mean, event...was the freshly renovated Casino something-or-other just across from the water slide...
I spent an inordinant amount of time up at the second floor balcony that overlooked the beach below and the ocean...
I could easily see Block Island and Montauk but concentrated on the nearby (sorta') breachway, boats, and the surfline for activity.
NADA!

'Saw alot of boats (Mike?...) but not much bait/fish activity...
The smoked/roast pig didn't stand a chance and I never met a lobster I didn't like!
Only 2+15 from the FarSide (of the Canal) via German road rocket I still felt the effects of OffCapeItis...

Mike...One good turn deserves another...next time you're on the Cape...I'll reserve a room for you at the Area 61 VOQ (VisitingOfficer'sQuarters)!
