Not to be a pessimist but we will not win this...the need for alternative sources of energy will outweigh any other arguments ... I suspect think tanks are looking to the future of our foreign relations and the need to become more independant for energy sources is part ,no doubt, of our national defense stategy...which we all know ... is a major concern particularly with the instability of the Middle East.... We will invade Iraq for more reasons than the trerrorist element....IMHO

The Corps has approved a test tower for data gathering purposes. The Corps says the public had their chance to comment and they even extended the comment period. Construction will begin immediately and will be completed by November.

Thumbs down Cape Cod Times article...

The issue is not the need for energy, the issue is private use of public land in this case seabed of which we have no knowledge of the impact of having 170 more towers as part of the first such intrusion (certainly not expected to be the last).

I am all for clean energy, but with a clear understanding of the impacts and returns as well as who will benefit and who will lose.

Let's put up windmills, indeed - but let's put them on a manageable piece of real estate like the Otis Air Force Base or even off Cape - the technology to feed electricity by wire is centuries old and stable whereby the seabed windmill technology is reminscent of the Man of La Mancha.

Yes I agree ... it is where it should be put...all I am saying is that the "where" is not a priority to the these planners....under the circumstances.... I think they envision a long struggle ahead....Perhaps greater escalation...and they are not going to put these types of things in well know military installations(abandoned or not)...or primary targets.... The location choosen will be difficult to sabotage but close enough to defend. The natural land barriers of the islands and the depth of the sound are key defense positions from a land or sea sabotage position...Those ...unfortunatly are the priorities here...again Only IMHO.....by the way... don't forget where our interstate highway system came from.... not for the benefit of personal transportation, which it has improved, but from President Eisenhowers obsession with creating a system which can move armies easier if we were invaded... alot of private land was taken for that....The public believed it was for their transportation but originally it was not. The speed with which these towers are going up should tell you something about the priorities here.

Of course the corp of engineers OKed it. They also approved the dams on the snake river 50 some years ago. That was a stroke of brilliance. Really helped the salmon and steelhead runs

Good luck,
