Made the walk on Pennsfield Reef Friday night. Pleanty of HUGE fish busting, popping, slurping, splashing..... you get the picture. Me and 3 others took the walk only to get skunked!!! So much bait ( silver sides, baby bunker and yearling crabs ) you could almost walk across the bait! For a while you could not get a clouser through it all !!! The damn fly would literally float on top of the bait. There was so much of it at times that it sounded like it was pouring rain on the water. The only saving grace is a friend of a friend landed a chunky 12-15lb fish and unfortunately kept it for Saturdays dinner. Curious to what the stomach contents were I called him up and found that it was full of big crabs! No silver sides or anything else. Weird!

Something even more weird was we found a Skunk on the bar about 3/4 of a mile out?????? I think it was clear case of foreshadowing. Should have known better after seeing that. None the less we saw lots of fish activity and most seemed very respectable fish by the sounds of the slurping and the huge splashes they were making. I will be back again during the week to check it out and keep all of you who care posted.

Wow, gives new meaning to finding the ole' skunk.

More or less the same in Westport Sat am, tons of bait. Took one fish about 28-29 inches on a 4 inch Rapala. Incredibly I suppose, I left them in full feed to see if any blues would come bustin at break of dawn in the islands and maybe even some tiny tunas but was not to be. I'm not real comfortable with the 9wt in the yak at night but I'd try something big and forget matching the little bait, way too much of it. I also tied up a green crab fly but haven't tried it yet.

FWIW, I found a bunch of dollar size green crabs in one I ate (injured) from the Housy a few weeks ago and I was in Maine last week and was told that bass were coming onto flats there to eat green crabs pretty much exclusively.

And I heard there was a 22 lber taken at Mill Pond this weekend.

Keep the reports coming.
Jim

Mill

I fish the Mill almost exclusively. I have seen and have hooked trophy fish there on more than one occasion. I will give the crab flies a try this weekend if I get the chance.
