No Shore: I forgot bluefish arm ripping ability

I guess it's been a long time since I hooked a bluefish. I guess their power and speed was too far back in my memory. Got out last night with Dale H. on Reel Rascals for a nice high tide cruise out of Newbury to Gloucester. We hit a school of 6-8lb blues and I was ready with a 9 wt. and wire. I hooked one maybe 6lbs or so and wow, Zzzzzzzzzzzz, backing zzzzzZZZZzzzzz. What the heck? My 9 wt. was ready to explode! It didn't and the fish tired but jeez, have I been missing out on some fun. I think I'll refer to them as No. Shore Bonito from now on. Thanks Dale for being a fabulous host. BLues rock! Got 2 filets marinating ala Boneclave style (see the recipe section) for the grill tonight.

I don't know why people turn up their noses at catching bluefish.

I'll take a fish that keeps fighting even while you're releasing it anyday.

Glad you got out for some fun.
