Bass and Blues + No work + Wife Along= FUNNNNN!!!!

Well had the day off yesterday and took the boat and the wife up to Fishers Island. We launched at about 3:45 am. and fished all of the shoreline along Groton and Stonington, did not even get a tap. At this point I was very confused and frustrated, another trip with the wife where we don't catch anything, went through Wicopessett Passage to the backside of Fishers to a cove I love to fish and first cast yields a very fat 15 lb. Bass. This was about 5:45 or so the rest of the day we caught bass and blues up to about 15-20 pounds until we left at 1:30 to go home and get some much needed sleep. My wife and I saw on many occassions bass in the 30-35 pound class chasing our FinsFish and flies right back to the boat, these were very BIG fish and I am happier than a pig in s**t that the wife was able to witness some of this action finally for once. I always go home telling her about my escapades and she never believes me, well now she does. I think if we had gotten to this spot earlier in the morning we would have caught some of those BIG fish easily as they were still hungry and chasing at 11:00 in the morning with the sun high above. TONS of 1-2 in. Bunker everywhere!!!!!!! When the Albies finally roll into town it is going to be FUN! Well you know where I am going to be this weekend........................................... ..???

Tightlines,
Mike M.

WOW

Sounds like you had a great time with the Mrs. Usually when a female is on board it means the kiss of death!

I will be up in that area Sat. hopefully signing the papers for a new Maritime 20D. If I decide to go ahead with the boat I will be going up that way frequently to learn more of the Sound.

Glad to hear someone had good fortune. Next time you get a 15-20lb fish be sure to tell him / her to swim a little further into the sound so I can catch it too:hehe:

Kiss of death?

Geez, it sounds like you've been fishing with the wrong type of woman.

Thanks for the report Striper. It's good to hear that the bait is out there. Now if only I could get out there......

Thanks for the kind words guy's. Yes usually when my wife comes along it is definitely the KISS OF DEATH! but this particular day was different, and for that I am greatful as can be. Really enjoy having the wife fish with me, she just does not come along as often as I would like. She was always having headaches on the boat and finally decided to try Dramamine again even though it makes her want to sleep. Well it kept the headaches at bay but made it difficult to keep her eyes open until the big girls started making an appearance. Then she had no problems staying awake I have not had the best of fishing summers this year so it is real nice to get out and catch fish (BASS) on the flyrod again, slow does not begin to describe my fishing of late, but it looks like that is going to end now. I will be up there again this Sat. or Sun. and will post a report for all.

Tightlines,
Mike M.

Hey Mike -

Great report! Glad to see that your fish to gas gallon ratio has improved. It's been a tough summer in CT but I'm glad conditions are a chang'in.
