8th Annual Skidmore Class of '87 Fly Tourney

Well for the 7th of 8 years Bob Vetromile (Vet, Vetro or Son of a Bitch!) will be adding his name to our little trophy celebrating friends family and fishing. Somehow we are all linked to a little college in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Each year we all meet meet...Husbands, Wives, Children and Dogs to hang out, eat, laugh, drink and oh yea FISH.
The first 3 years we hit Menemsha, the next 3 Block Island and the past 2 Cuttyhunk Fishing Club.
Vetro hooked, battled and landed a 39.25 inch striper in his new favorite spot in Quicks Hole early Saturday morning while I was on my way over to dogfush bar to see if I could pratice my new monomoy tricks on any fish cruising in the knee deep water.
Lesson learned.......if you want big fish drift the Elizabeths.
Highlight of the weekend was Sunday morning fishing with Eric and Victoria Baughman. Eric has the humor and keen sense to spot boils and Victoria brought the focus and determiniation to hook into a striper on fly.
We found Vet and Bri-Guy at his spot and began a drift. We had the hook-up and lose'em syndrome going with me losing several (monsters ...I'm sure!!) and Vic losing a good fish. Finally a change to a bright yellow flat wing did the trick. Vic hooked a featherwight boxer and learned what the expression knuckle buster means. After a comedic show of getting the line to the real. ( Doctor - the lines stuck on my sandles!!!) Vic kept the rod down to the side applying even pressure and never letting the bend out of the 9 weight. She brought it to the boat for a quick picture and she quickly released the linesider back to the boulder field below.
After the release of the little pit bull we decided to blow off catching the ending of the world cup and just kept fishing.

I'd like to give thanks to the Forbes family for keeping those islands so pristine.

Nice report Dan - I've fished that area a few times and realize in your account that I don't do it nearly enough! Good albie and bonito action out there in a month or two as well
