CCA-NH Summer Information

Summer 2002 CCA-NH Information

Candidates Night

If you have ever been interested in becoming part of the important decision-making process of fisheries issues, then this is your opportunity. There is an open New England Fisheries Management Council seat which is available to new candidates.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will be sponsoring a Candidates Night for those interested in applying for the seat or participating in the interview/selection process.

The meeting will be held at the Urban Forestry Center at 45 Elwyn Rd, Portsmouth, NH and will begin at 7:00 PM. Please attend if you can.

Striper Tournament to Benefit Great Bay Reserve

On May 13-14 our state chapter will run the first annual Gulf of Maine Striper Tournament. This is a catch and release tournament with the bulk of the proceeds to benefit the Great Bay Estuarine Research Reserve and Sandy Point Discovery Center in Greenland, NH.

The tourney will pit teams of anglers from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts vying for trophies for the largest fish and the most fish by team. Team scores will be determined by dividing the number of fish released by the number of team members in your group. All fish must be released.

There will be a general division and fly fishing division with boat and shore categories. Teams may be of two or more anglers.

Trophies will be suitably engraved mugs. The high point of the tournament will be the awards ceremony, buffet and auctions at Red Hook Ale Brewery in Portsmouth following the fishing on Sunday. In addition to a buffet and cash bar, the awards will be given out and there will be raffles and silent auctions for tackle items and other prizes. A number of outfits and guided trips will highlight the awards.

Major sponsors of this event are Surfland Bait & Tackle, Saco Bay Outfitters, and American Angling Supply. Also supporting the tournament is the National Marine Fisheries Service, Blue Dolphin Screen Printing, and Red Hook Ale Brewery.

The Tournament Committee hopes that all CCA members from New Hampshire, Southern Maine, Casco Bay as well as North Shore and Boston Chapters of Massachusetts will compete and support this event. Bring your friends and sign them up as new CCA members for your chapter. All members will receive a tournament Application/Brochure. Take a minute and fill yours out now and mail it in soon. This tournament is being run for members in three states and entrants are limited to 150. Deadline for entry is a postmark of July 6th. Entry fee includes tournament T-shirt and buffet awards dinner at Red Hook. Don't miss this one.

For more information, please contact Bill Hubbard (tournament co-chairman) at 431-8735 after 6:00 PM.

I didn't know how to edit my original message, but I wanted to make some corrections:

Candinates Night is June 10th.

The tournament is July 13th and 14th, not in May.

Sorry for the confusion.

Eric.
