Happy ending (big fish)

Mostly micros for me on the Cape for two days (Saturday and Sunday). Nauset Inlet, outer beach, up inside Pleasant Bay. Early morning, early evening, all tides, didn't matter - nothing but twinkies, and many of them. On the bright side, it bodes well for future years. At one point, I pulled one in on the outer beach while my 8 year old was watching. She told me she didn't know stripers were born so small.

Finally early Monday I went out on Nauset for the last weekend outing. Had the entire beach to myself, surprising for the last day of the long weekend. Come to think of it, the drive back Monday night was a breeze. I think many people headed off Cape early after the cold windy Sunday. Glad I didn't.

Waded out fairly far. Thick fog, but warmer with much less breeze than Sunday am when I froze my fingers off. Decided to chuck the "spring" colors and try a more natural pattern (mostly olive) and clear intermediate line because the water was fairly clear and calm. Only had one hit in two hours of fishing. Subtle hit. It sulked on the bottom for a minute, and then took off. It went deep three times. Largest fish I've ever caught on a fly. 36 1/2 inches. Not a single person, boat, or vehicle as far as I could see. Great memories and 2002 is just starting.

Sunday was fun. Bonechilling cold, but fun once I finally figured out how to deal with those little strikes.

Monday am I was out on the outside on a sand bar.

Thanks Bill, some nice ones formed over the winter. I even drew out a few that looked real nice for revisitation later. Look forward to hooking up again out there,

Juro
