I have reviewed this reel on the speypages and there is a thread on the Spey Clave about this reel as well.

Thats a beautiful reel.

I tried to do an apples to apples comparison to my Tioga's. Of courses more backing with the Tioga not being a LA but what was interesting was the weight. The Tioga is notably lighter.

I'm also concerned with how a reel with that many bearings will perform when it takes a beating on the beach. I'm not that good at keeping my reels out of the sand. When I hold my Tioga's under water & strip off some line, the problems solved.

Roop, I think you are looking at the HD models when it comes to weight.

The 8/11 LW model weighs in at a scant 6.7 oz. It holds a 10 wt. line and 150 yds. of #30 backing.

I just picked one up on ebay for short $.

Wanna buy it Roop?:hehe:

You got me there Mark.

I sold my #8, 6.6 oz + 225 yards backing & now have all those real heavy 7.2 oz #10's, spare spools, 250+ yards backing, can stop a tank....

Let's see. You guys are all moving to the speedy yaks, sexxy reels, fancy rods.... maybe I won't be bringing my wife out fishing with us after all.:hehe:

Alas, the Loop is a re-sale item for me so I can add to my funny money fund.

I love my Ross Canyon BG-5 way too much to part with it. I just need one more spool with a floating multi-tip line and the arsenal is complete.

Loop Evotec LW

Hey yíall,

Iím new to the forum and love this place so Iím venturing out from the bonefishing section were we usually hang out.

Angie has a Loop Evotec LW 6nine on her Scott STS 8wt. Mark is looking at a larger reel but itís the same model. We also fish different species than most of you but the info might be useful.

Angie is a finesse fly thrower who will cast all day from the front of the boat. Weight of the rig is all-important to her. Thatís the primary reason she chose the Loop. It is lightweight, holds plenty of backing and the large arbor brings the line in quickly.

The bearings are sealed and weíve had no problem from them. Her reel sees use most every weekend and endures salt and sand.

There is one factor that is very important. The spool rim overlaps the reel as it should for palming. However, the material of the rim is so thin that a slight bump will bend the edge of the spool onto the rim causing interference. This happened to us in Eleuthera while running around in our Suzuki beach skiff. We are now much more careful when stowing the rig. I now carry a small precision pliers to carefully bend the spool back in shape.

Other than that, she thoroughly enjoys her Loop.

Alan

I love this reel and am thinking about getting one for my 10ft 9wt GLX provided it balances with the longer rod.The Evotec HD is gorgeous too,but a little heavier and more $$$.
