Planning on traveling to fish this year.

After what happened last Sept a lot of folks are nervous about traveling. I had a few guys cancel out on me this past season for the albie run and I am pretty sure that a lot more didn't come that I never heard from at all. With that I was wondering how many folks are planning trips specifically for the purpose of fishing or who has cancelled or just isn't even thinking about it.

Still plan to get to the Cape after Labor Day and will try to hit the Albies & Bonito again this year. Will travel and fish!

My wife and me left Dennisport on 9-11 last year around 8:00 AM and headed to Mystic and Westport for a few days. Our thoughts and prayers were with all our American friends and relatives at the time and remain so to this day. As horrible a tragedy 9-11 was, I am committed to NOT allowing the grief or concerns about safety to stop me. I prefer to celebrate our values about freedom with continued travel.

Maybn on this board there are greater risk takers like me and will continue to fly.

However, I know a number of people who were frequent flyers prior to 9/11 who now are not unless they absolutely must.

I flew three weeks ago to LA and back and the volume is down tremendously at Chicago O'hare and LA LAX.

The traffic is coming back though, I can tell you since my office window looks out on the O'hare runways. More flights in the last couple of months, but still down from before 9/11.

My .02 cents

My wife and I are going out to Cape Cod this July - into Logan! We are going to hook up with Juro and a number of board members - as well as a bunch of stripers! No bastards are going to keep me away!

Though this is our 25th Wedding Anniversary Trip - it is a fishing trip! We plan on spending 18 days between Boston, New York and the Cape (8 days at the Cape! At which time Doublespey will meet us as well). Admittedly, we did have some misgivings after 9-11, however, I feel that if you give in at all - the bastards win. We booked the trip and now all we're worried about is all the good times we're going to have!

To be fair though, I am a high school basketball coach and we did cancell our major trip - to Newport Beach CA over concerns brought on by 9-11. My schoolboard made the decision for us and at the time I didn't argue too much (this was in September}.

I wish....

Dean or bust...no wait, that is impossible.

Skeena or bust is more realistic.

I'll be making my annual trip from here in Florida, to visit my family in Oregon and friends in Washington and then to BC to fish the Dean, in August.
I have no problem with flying or traveling in any other way and would go all most anywhere there was fishing.

I flew to Montana in the end of Sept. Two people on my trip cancelled. Flew to NZL. in Dec. No one cancelled and the lodge was full. They said that bookings were down, however.
Some people say they feel less safe after Sept.11, but I think we are safer than ever. We are more aware of the threats that ALWAYS existed. Now there is one less plot against America. Hopefully we are in the process of eliminating more of them. As for travel, I ask my self,"What are the odds?". I'm going fishing.

I am planning a trip to Bozeman in early July, and am not really worried about flying. As stated before, I think we are now safer than before, and I think the groups that carried out the last attack are a long time away from being able to carry something out of the same magnitude.

So, as an American living in the land of the free, I say FISH ON!
