NEED A STRIPER FIX????

if you're near the south shore plaza, stop by legal seafood. they have a huge tank on the mall side wall with about a hundred micros... not as good as fishing but I musta stood there for 20 mins just watching them. so cool to see how they stack up in places, and stop to look at you from time to time. makes me wanna take up diving again. RE:NEED A STRIPER FIX????

Not to stir the pot but... were they hybrids -or- stripers? I wonder what the regs are on micros for the table. I guess they were farm raised so no laws apply?

Interesting just the same. One of my co-worker / co-angler friends used to work with the NE aquarium and she is still very connected there. I'm thinking if it gets real bad we could go casting in the penguin pool!

RE:NEED A STRIPER FIX????

these are way too samll for the table, (at least for a while) I'm going to assume they are farm raised fish. geez, I hope some DMF bozo doesn't come up with the "brilliant" idea of supplimenting our natural fish with farm raised... that'd kill the fishery for sure!

...FWIW...the last time that I visited the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich, they too, had small stripers in a fish tank.

RE:NEED A STRIPER FIX????

They do plant hatchery stripers in the Chessapeake. I caught a tagged fish once, and got a nice cap and a bunch of paper which included the ASMFC patting itself on the back about putting in a million striper fry to help with the restoration.

Having an anti-hatchery bias I immediately leapt to some fiendish conspiracy theories which correlated with whatever was happening in our local fishery at the time (probably 97?), which paranoid theories I shared with the BBS5 crowd, and which generally drew hoots of derision. Sound minds like Eric Lund's calmed me down, but I don't remember the issues.

RE:NEED A STRIPER FIX????

well Mike, I guess I'll have to take your word for the fact that introduced fry won't ruin the other fish. I certainly beleive it is possible if done right... just a bit cynical as to how long things like that can be done right , I guess. Tom D
