for all of those looking at building a multi-piece rod.Basically you are adding a few wraps which when you have built a few rods will only add 5 to 10 minutes and as far as finish goes. You must remember when adding things to varnish for example Thinners, alcohol and such you are contaminating your finish and it will not last.It causes finish to crack, cloud etc and all prematurely. So if you want one to last a lifetime do it right Heat the finish under a heat lamp to thin it.This will allow you to put on 2-3 coats without ruinning the integrity of the finish.A 5 piece 10' rod takes me about 20 minutes to apply the finish on X three coats so a total of an hour and a 3 layer high gloss FLEX COAT build.1st coat just threads no overlapping onto blank.Next 2 coats overlapping onto blank, surely behind the guide feet so that grime and water do not break down you finish.Look at the factory rods they are designed to fail after 3 years. The varnish will crack, threads will protrude and they will have the guides feet falling from a rod that is fished Moderately so take the time do it right one time, smooth and neat.Lrods:whoa:
