2002 PNW "Spey Clave" May 17 to 19th on the Sandy River.

Mark has posted additional info on the 2002 Spey Clave on the Sandy River just east of Portland, Oregon.

Some of the spey rod/equipment manufactures who have commited to attend are: Redington, Winston, Scott, Airflow, Flylogic, Frontier Flies, Cortland and Hardy. On the water demo's by such notables as Andy Murray from England, Steve Choate (interesting here as his 'nom-de-plume' is 'last cast Steve,' everyone calls him 'longcastSteve.' Hoy Vey, he's the only guy I've ever seen who pulls the entire 120' to 150' off the reel to begin his spey casts!), Mark Bachmann, Brian Silvey and DEC HOGAN.

Forgot to add: The Fly Fishing Shop

is probably one of the largest providers of Spey Fishing equipment in the US. (And probably darn near anything else).

As you review the info be sure to 'putt around' the rest of the site.

And no, this is not a 'paid plug.'

Juro, good idea ..... 'stroke him from your end and I'll ...

stoke him from mine.

Mark has a first class operation. Being repetitive here but I've placed orders (regular delivery) on a Wednesday morning and had the box dropped on my desk on Friday. And he pays the dime.

Talking Spey Clave

This looks like a wonderful event. -- can't wait.

Maybe Tim P. will bring his Sharpe down and show it off.

Cheers,

One of the great things about "The Clave"

is whether or not you've even held a two hander, you ask and your first 'lesson' will start in about 3 minutes flat. However, for your own financial saftey leave your credit card at home (just kidding as nothing is sold at the Clave).

accomodations. Sandy Clave

Can anyone make any recommendations as to motels, B&B's etc in the area? I will be bringing a friend this time. The mystic of the long rod is catching on, even down here in the southland. The current plan is fly to Portland and rent a car. We haven't gotten much further than that yet, other than the anticipated good times shared with friends and some good single malt. Email me at mailto:jdjones@oco.net

Thanks, JD

JD, the "Spey Bug" has big teeth!

Shoot Mark B a e mail on lodging. I'd contacted him about this earlier as it was an obvious question for most folks coming to the Clave. (Airport to Sandy River/Oxbow is about a 30'ish minute drive).

Also asked him if he would be kind enough to see if he could arrange a 'group rate' as many of us would have to travel.

I talked with Simon Gawsworth at the San Mateo Sports Show and he indicated that he was tied up but recently heard that his schedule has changed, allowing him to come to the Clave. That is awsome news. A hugly talented and interesting guy - reason enough to attend the clave

Rick! Great news on Simon!!!

I've heard so much about this man that I'm really looking forward to one of the true greats in the world of two handers.

Understand new/updated info on the Fly Shops e-retail site on the Clave. Jumping over there next to scope out. Direct connection posted in a thread above.
Fred

Edit update: Mark has reallllly pulled out the stops for the Clave. The site confirms Simon Gawsworth, along with Andy Murray, Steve Choate, Deck Hogan, Mark and Brian will be doing 'on the water' demos both Saturday and Sunday. Wonder if it's 'illegal' in Oregon to place "side-bets" on which of these guys can make the most back to back 120-150 casts?
