The Segway

I was thinking again last night when I saw another story on the Segway scooter. I was thinking just how that would work on the beach in place of those long walks... You sure could cover alot of ground... But they would probably be baned... does anyone know if off track bikes are band on the Cape beaches... I am wondering if the 2 wheels would not be covered under current regs.. any thoughts.

I'd put odds on the Segway or bikes being banned from at least some beaches. Some parks ban mountain bikes from trails due to erosion, danger to hikers, etc. Enforcement is a different issue. I have a a vague recollection of seeing signs at the Parker River NWR banning beach access to bikes. Anyone up in Newburyport who could confirm this?

Personaly, I'm waiting to see how Boston's drivers react to Segway's.

Interesting...

I could see myself doing a faceplant after hitting a chunk of driftwood in it, with my luck! But then since my sand hiking is the onyl real exercise I get anymore, my gut would protect me from injury.

John,

The Segway may in fact be unleashed on a demo basis in Concord, NH. Apparently the Post Office is going to give them to mail carriers.

If I see some postal carriers on the Segway I may just have to "borrow" one for an hour or two.

We call this a "Segway jacking" or an "IT jacking".

On NPR while coming home tonight I heard an interview of a mail carrier in Tampa who was beta testing one for the postal service. Two interesting things discussed relative to using one for fishing were that he had his outfitted with bags for carrying mail, and that he didn't attempt to climb anything more than a 4" step when going up stairs.

I have to wonder if it would make it up the stairs at the Chatham light.

John... you have to do some walking... I don't think I would have the guts to try those stairs... but scooting along the upper beach would be great. I agree with Terry.

I knew I shouldn't have stayed serious about this topic. Watch out guys this thread may be headed to the "No Spouses Allowed" rating.

My agent hasn't secured me rights to the Segway shots yet. They keep giving me this line about "Until The Lady in Red's approval rating drops, we can't do anything for you." I think its a load of Bologna Shavings.
