patterns for reference: crease flies

No big secrets to the recipie, but they can be fun to play with.

Anybody else try using marabou for the tails ?

(ps: grego, I think I have a new source for the holographic sheets. Will post once the sample order arrives. )

Bob,

How did you color the first one? It almost looks "air-brushed"

I like the half Red too. I think I use the same "Lure Tape" product!

Let me know about the "new" Holographic Source!

grego,

I don't know if you have noticed but it seems that the craft foam I've been using doesn't absorb the inks from the marking pens to readily, so I decided to use that to my advantage.
This was a yellow foam body, I took an olive permenent marker and colored the upper half. Then took a rag and rubbed the marker in to belnd it into the yellow and soften the color transition. Reapply the olive to the top 1/4 abd blend that, gradually darkening towards the top. Final application of black right along the spine and a quick blend, that's it aside from a thin coat of epoxy ( I tried the Devcon 20 minute version gently heated to flow and 'painted' it on with the side of a bodkin. Tried to get just enough to get it glossy at minimum thickness.
I need to stock up on some othe marker colors to use with the white foam, I think you could come up with some real nice blended colors.
I bought some of the "Contac" brand holographic paper at Michaels on Sunday but haven't had the chance to test it. The other source was mail order. Waiting for the UPS guy to see what the quality is like. $4.99 for 5 sheets but they had a nice selection of holographic colors/patterns.

Bob... that's a great idea.. I had not thought of rubbing the colors to blend them.

Bob,

Thanks. Nice description; I'll give it a try.

I like Micheals, but I trouble finding things; their layout is not intuitive. I can get around any Jo-Annes!

Let me know how that new stuff works!

FishHawk,

Along that Same Line, Jo-Annes has Glo-in-Dark glitter. Basically, you can add it to anything that you can put a coat of hard head on. Also, I've mixed it right in with Epoxy. The problem is you have to remeber to put the flies under a bright light for quite a while before you fish them. Flies stored in a Dark Fly Box will Not be "charged Up" & ready to Fish!

I received that order of holographic papers today. The quality is good, the 'stock' is not as heavy as the WTP materials commonly sold through the tackle and fly shops but the colors and finishes are nice. Full size 8-1/2 x 11 pieces (approx) and it's $ 4.69 for 5 sheets.

Here is the online retailer I used:
