Fly Color & Great Lakes Fishery

I ran into the following University of Wisconsin Great Lakes fisheries research site which had a good technical write up on lure/fly color alternatives at different water depths and conditions.
Some things to think about for fly colors under varying conditions.

This site also has other interesting information on the Great Lakes fisheries and links to other sites.

By the way in the last couple of years the salmon and steelhead runs have been excellent, and fish size has again been increasing due to the restoration of the alewife and smelt forage base.

There was a new Michigan record lake trout of 61 LBs caught this year. We do have some rivers which have fall runs of lake trouts, imagine hooking into this beast on your fly rod. See link below for picture. Also Wisconsin had new state record brown of 35 pounds and steelhead of 27 lbs in the last year. The runs are very healthy through out all of the great lakes. Need to keep those fish farms and reduced commercial netting (inprocess) out of here.

Surf away on these sites and their links as you like. Some other good info through out them.

Hal, just 'hush up!'

Joan says me sitting here in front of the monitor "sniviling like a 2 year old' is very 'un-manly.

OK

Fred, OK, will shut up.

Cannot help it if the Great Lakes fisheries are healthy and growing again. They were down until the late 1990s compared to what they had been in the 70s and 80s.

There are times during the peak spring and fall runs that you would swear that Alaska could not be much better IF YOU HIT IT RIGHT on many of the rivers through out the region.
