Talking And what are you doing this winter?

I am building a new 10 foot 8 weight rod to replace the one I lost off the top of my truck. I could build it in 2 days, but I am trying to make it last. Haven't worked on it in a month. I have been tying a few saltwater flies, I probably only have about 900 flies now, need a few more to confuse the issue. I am also rebuilding a 2 HP Johnson Outboard for my small inflatable, watch out for my wake. I am refining my new prject which I call my Napatree Express. It is a device that can carry my waders, cooler, fishing equipment, and 2 rods. I am tired of borrowing something like leaders, or nippers, that I left in the truck, back at the parking lot. Used it last year a few times, and it works great for one likwe myself that wants to carry the kitchen sink. That way I won't forget anything. I also am working on making a couple of CD's that have fishing and fishing sites ot the New England area. Lots of pictures of New Hampshire Coho fishing of the 1980's. Many trout fishing pictures of some large trout, and the flies I have taken them on. Hope to have some done before some of the claves, put them on my laptop. This should keep me busy, and out of trouble. Also have got to spend sometime at some of the Flyshops in the area like The Bears Den, and The Saltwater Edge. Last, but not least, shovel snow.

Tieing flies to upgrade my probably 1,000 + supply now. Michigan and PNW steelhead flies privarily. Will also look to do some classic streamers, trout, pike, and smallmouth flies. Look for another steelhead fly reel. Redington is looking good right now but more R+D is needed. Decide on a cheap spey rod under $ 300 if that is possible. Read more about spey fishing and give it a try in 2002.

Not planning on shovelling much snow in Chicago this year, after last December we need a break. Nothing to date yet this year. it is looking good. This weather keeps up I will be winter steelhead fly fishing on the St Josephs in Michigan next week.

Try to find out what those gear guys mean when they say they are fishing with a rag. It has been bothering me for quite some time.

After that catch my first winter steelhead . Then I could say my life up to this point is complete.

Sean-
Rags are one of my favorite drift bobbers ever!! Fish just munch em!!! They are about an inch long piece of 1/4" to 1/2" inch diameter white backer rod (closed cell foam) with various colors of yarn pulled through them.

Uh oh I bet Juro edits your post

I have never gear or bait fished and was always wondering what a rag was. Thought it would be a little more exciting

I dont understand why a steelhead would go for that when it could have :

a beaut like that.
