Saltwater Fly Tying

Calf tail.

Can anyone offer an objective comparison or contrast of its properties to bucktail or any other similar natural products?

Thanks.

Moo

Curly, not straight - thinner, less bouyant. Great for winging smaller flies to get bulk - gnats, steelhead flies like the skunk series. Comes in virtually every color.

IMHO good for small SW flies like bonefish patterns but max length is about 1.5" at the tips and often too curly there so typical working length is about .5-.75"

Similar depends on usage desired - many other furs most bringing you toward the softer lively end (arctic fox, badger). Others bring you the other way in stiffness: elk, moose, boar.
