FlySwap 2001

I hereby declare that the FlySwap 2001/clave is now in session,

Glad to see so much interest in sharing favorite (and possibly) secret striper swipers this winter. I'll assume that our IS Manager Al_d is already on the path of setting up a registration board {Al has it up already @ http://dev.dugmore.com/claves/ } so we'll know who is participating. If you are like me right now you are still catching up on all the work-work and home-work that went negelcted in favor of fishing. That and the upcoming holiday season will shut down my tying bench for the next few weeks so how about we set a date for all submissions to be in my hands by....(drum roll please)...
February 23rd, (2001 for those of us who are trying to avoid what year it is)

Please mail your works of art and inspiration (or perspiration?) to:

Bob Pink Jr
c/o Stratford Associates
118 Old Colony Ave
Quincy, MA 02170

I'll ship them back via UPS so make sure I have a street address ( no PO Boxes please ) and $1.50.

I will probably follow Ray's suggestion of processing them in groups of 6 as they come in so the earlier you send your's in the sooner you are likely to see your return package.

If you want to include a 'recipe' for the pattern, please make the 6 copies to send with the flies.

Have fun!
Bob

RE:FlySwap 2001

Bob - gotta like a man who takes the bull by the horns! I love getting flies in the mail, even if they don't stay long - but your offer is too good to refuse. THANKS!

I've done a lot of swaps over the years and would recommend that the flies are swapped into mixed sets of six and sent out all at once. This ensures the broadest variety and is a better experience for all because it's possible to make a better overall cross-pollentation. With all due respect to Capt.Ray, doing set for set takes a big part out of it. We could discuss this with the swappers to confirm. I will say that my experience in doing these gives me a lot of confidence that this is correct though. Up to the gang.

I want to make sure that our fly pattern database is not left out - so if you do not end up with a digital camera we'll get together for photography... but somehow I think santa's talking megapixels this year for Bobbie. I know we are a spontaneous bunch (remember Nickerson) but here are a few guidelines please:

1) Please include the pattern recipe with each fly for the guy who receives it, and for the archive

2) Please indicate any flies you do not want photographed and entered into the archive, for whatever reason. I don't want to inhibit the offering of secret flies because of public viewing concern.

3) Please indicate at least one fly out of your six for addition into the archive. They can't all be that secret <img src="http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif[/img]

Thanks,
Juro

RE:FlySwap 2001

Way to go Bob!

My tying bench is covered in Christmas decorations. Doh!

My contribution of flies will strictly be on a need to know basis. Definitely double secret probation material. My two newest creations are takeoffs of my Lee series. Ug & Home.

Ole and Sven were fishing in the land of 10,000 lakes when Sven pulled out a cigar but didn't have a lighter, so he asked Ole for a light. "Ya, shure, I tink I haff a lighter," he replied, and reached into his tackle box and pulled out a 12-inch BIC lighter.

"Yiminy Cricket!" exclaimed Sven. "Vhere did yew get dat monster?" Vell," replied Ole, "I got it from my Genie."
"You haf a genie?" Sven asked. "Ya, shure, he's right here in my tackle box,"said Ole. "Could I see him," asked Sven.

Ole opens his tackle box and out pops the genie. Sven says, "Hey dere! I'm a good friend of your master. Vill you grant me vun vish?" "Yes I will," the genie said, so Sven asks him for a million bucks.

The genie hops back into the tackle box and leaves him standing there waiting for his million bucks. Suddenly the sky begins to darken and the sound of a million ducks flying overhead is heard.

Sven yells to Ole, "I asked for a million Bucks, not Ducks!"Ole answers, "Ya, I forgot to tell yew, da genie is hard of hearing. Yew really tink I asked him for a 12 inch BIC?"

RE:FlySwap 2001

Gotta watch where you flick that bic!

Yeah I deserved that Sully, what I mean is that fly patterns have that tendency to be personal and not everyone wants the recipes posted on the internet. This is more likely to happen in a steelhead or salmon environment than a striper environment... so point taken. Personally, I hope we post all the recipes! But I'll leave that decision up to the tyer.

Also, I concede to Bob as the flyswap meister - I don't think I can add anything to his energy, resourcefulness and decision making.
