Poinr Rip Roster

dOh... that's "POINT rip"

As far as I can tell the roster is at:

FredA
grego
bigcat
al
jen
brianz
roop
craig
me

I have a few candidates that are close but haven't committed. I think the weather will hold up, and like we said there are many, many options on cape and it's a great time to be chasing gamefish inshore.

One more to go!

Juro

RE:Poinr Rip Roster

Oh yeah... I'm feeling the vibe. There's just no joy like Monomoy, no zip like the south tip, no yeehow like a riptide cow, while others are slackin' we're seeing backing. Tunoids are tempting but the south tip rip is a rockin' striper scene.

I AM PUMPED!!!!

Should Be A Blast!!!!
Hopefully more fish will be cruising the beach this time! Juro, what time does the rip set up out there?
Last time things were getting really hot and unfortunately we had to head back for Keith.

Brian - high tide is about 9:15 AM, so we should have at least 4 hours of prime time.....Here's hoping Josko was there on an incoming (See his report on the big thread, "Point Rip Trip This Weekend?")

After this week's after-work twinky fests, I'm really psyched to feel a bigger tug at the end of my line. Can't wait. - Al

RE:Poinr Rip Roster

The tide is far from primo, the action will be at the end of the day again. Although there are many different weather reports I am going with the scattered showers cult. Bring some raingear, high in the mid-70s and humid they say.

I am hoping that the morning highs and slack will bring some possibility of tunoid action close to the edge, I've received several reports of albies in the surf north of the tip on the outside.

Blues should be prevalent, and they showed in force on the high tide pre-rip waiting period last time we I was out there. Bring steel.

Well I've finally got both lines on spools for the two hander and will be using the 12.6 9wt RPL. I think the extra will give better line control as well. Feel free to give it a toss.

Keep fingers and toes crossed that we get out!

Juro - or anyone else - if you're going by Maine Harbor's tide data, be careful. I've found them to be off by as much as 3 hours! Not always, but frequently enough that I have to check several sources before I'm sure.

The World Tides site has high tide on the outer harbor at 9:15 on Sunday; not primo, but we should start seeing the rip form around noon.

Being severly distracted by real life & trying to get ready, tying new patterns, double checking backing knots, tying up some wire tippets.

Never caught a dogfish on the fly, Bigcat tells me they roll like crazy and ruin your gear. I'll bring along a spare line or two for all just in case.

Looking forward to seeing you all again, I don't know if I will recognize Brian unless he's at South Beach...

RE:Poinr Rip Roster

Any suggestions for tippets? Seems I wasn't paying close eneough attention to mine at Rip Trip 2. Had several break-offs due to frayed tippet (excluding the blue)from dragging the fly over the cobble. I guess I'm too used to fishing over the sand. I was using 16# Mirage.

Sure hope this trip comes off. Any backup plans yet?

Regards,
Fred A.

RE:Poinr Rip Roster

Fred,

GregO and I have sworn by Andy's 20 lb for base leader material for quite a few seasons. Greg landed a blue on it at the very first outing to Monomoy this season. It's very tough, it knots well, and is reasonably stealthy, certainly enough for stripers. If tunoids show and they are picky, well, fishing above the gravel might be more productive anyway?

As to a backup, the winds are predicted to be out of the South, so if it blows real fierce I'm thinking CC Bay (Barnstable, Sesuit, or perhaps Rock Harbor) with my tin boat and hope the fish are in tight. If it's at all calm, I've had a hunch about Bass River and will try there, launching at Smuggler's Beach. If the tunoids are still even around, I have to think they are here eating the tons of bait I saw while on vacation a few weeks back -- God knows nothing was chowing it while I was there

If anyone would like a call as to the status of the trip, send me an email and I'll call close to dinner Sat. evening. Really hope it's a go.

Al

It looks like you have room for one more. Hope the weather turns out in our favor. Count me in if there is room for one more.

Greg.
