"Other" Fishing!

Well, Striper season is basically over, unless one does the drive to SW RI or Conn.

I'm interested in learning about local freshwater fishing opertunities in my area (work in Lexington & live in Tewksbury). I've talked a bit with Terry on this subject.

I'm NOT a freshwater fly fisherman. I'm one of these odd-balls that went from saltwater spin directly to SWFF. In fact my freshwater experience consists of worms, salmon eggs, & lures on light spin. However, I do have a 7-wgt & a floating line.

I'm interested in trout, large mouth, pike, whatever.
I'd like to expand my Fly Fishing Horizons, but spin gear is OK too.

I'm interested in any/all forms of information. Tagging along with others (share driving), locations, tips, techniques, books, articles...

Finally, no offense to anyone, but I REFUSE to ICE FISH!

Grego,
GREAT THREAD! I have done absolutely zero freshwater fishing at all and I am very interested in giving it a shot. I have a six wt rod and would love to try it out in some freshwater.

RE:

Grego,
I could set you up with some decent trout flies for starters. Also, you should put together a nice leader (I use blood knots for low profile). Anyone got a good leader recipe for the locals? I've been using 10 lb butt, then 8 lbs section, then 6 lbs, then tippet. I've heard others using straight mono leaders for Largemouth.

There are some decent leader formulas at:

Unlike SWFF, I prefer to buy leaders for most of my freshwater fishing. A nice tapered leader with a little tippet is a lot less aggrivation to use, IMO.

Funny... my mind has turned to trout lately as well. For those in the New England area, check out commute fishing on the freshwater/trout board!

Found it!

Juro, are you (not so) subtly moving this discussion to the Freshwater Forum? You mean that this doesn't belong in Stripers & Coastal GameFish?
