Irene/Acklins

Looks like Irene's eye went right over Springpoint. Hope all are safe and there is'nt too much damage. It'll probably be awhile before we hear from anyone down there. Spoke with Felton ( Acklins Boy) the other day at that time he was hoping it would skirt the island. Hope he boarded up the "Taj"

Spoke to a friend from Lovey Bay. Apparently a lot of the houses on the water had damage. The houses inland, even a little bit, fared better. Didn't sound great.

I spoke today with representatives from Ivels who are in Nassau, and Ivels B & B sustained minimal damage--some lost shingles, small pieces of roof, etc. . . No apparent injuries to anyone associated with Ivels.

He did say he heard that some homes were flattened, but he could not elaborate where on Acklins.

I also just spoke with Clinton Scavella from Crooked Island (he's in Nassau) and everything on Crooked Island is ok, some roof damage and a lot of cleanup, but everyone is definitely safe there.

He did say he heard that 19 homes were completely destroyed on Acklins, in the lovely bay/chesters area, and many others sustained heavy damage.

Lets pray that no one was seriously hurt.

Hi friends! The report coming out; says:

*17 homes/properties completely destroyed
*29 major damage
*48 properties with minor damage

*NO INJURIES OR LOST OF LIFE!! Bahamians understand hurricanes very well.

The headache will be the clean-up and getting things back to some sense of normalcy, inclusive of getting the income centres up and running. I dare say early..... The peoples will need work, if they are to rebuild the island.

Notwithstanding the above NO-ONE should underestimate the resolve & tenacity of the Acklins Islander!

Further all the BONEFISH SURVIVED THE HURRICANE!!!

I promise a more detailed report once I can confirm.

We will be ready for the start of the season!

Amidst the bad news coming from Acklins via the local new cast; power has been restored, going south from the power station. This would include areas like, Spring Poing, Delectable Bay & Pompey Bay. Appears, the north rec'd the most damage. Popular water hole 'club RolleX is gone. Out of respect, name is with held, but the most popular lodge in the north is also gone. From the news cast, a number of private residences that I recognized, are not livable. The island adminstrator, alluded to the fact that the most damage might be among the newer construction. No infor yet from Salina Point. Fingers & Toes are crossed!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to see that about Greys Point. My first Bahamas trip was to there and I will always have fond memories of the place even though it led to my addiction.
It was just after 9/11 and I was the only fisherman staying at the lodge. The Williamson's were warm hosts and made me feel at home. The fishing was excellent also.

Lovely Bay

I spoke to my friend Fedel a couple times over the last few days. He's heading back to the island as I type but his house/lodge was one of the lucky ones and only had minor damage-shingles and some water damage. I wired my deposit in yesterday so it can help with the restoration work.

Whether it's acklins, cat, eleuthera, andros, etc., this is a good year to show support. The tourist dollars are going to be more important than ever. That no one on Acklins lost their life in that storm is amazing.

Good news that no one was seriously hurt. It will be a long process to get things back in order and our prayers are with the people of Acklins.

It is also sad about Grey's Point. That is the first place I stayed at on Acklins, and we have brought many guests there over the years.

Sad about club rolex too--we enjoyed drinks and dinners there many times over the last couple years. They had great craked conch and grouper fingers.

We hope your place is ok Felton, and I need to plan a visit there soon.
