Rip trip

Not sure if this is in the cards for this summer, but if so the squid are there, right against the beach. Could be there today, gone tomorrow but it has been a good show for the last few days.

When I organized the first Rip Trip clave iin 2000 (holy **** was it that long ago??) t was designed to be a cure for the dog-days of summer and boy was it ever...

http://www.flyfishingforum.com/chron...ripjournal.htm

2011 is anything but a textbook summer but it is kind of dog dayz and if there are squid against the shore at the tip I would WALK down there!

Anyone interested in SUNDAY JULY 10th? I will talk to Keith if we can get some interest in the next 1-2 days.

Forecast - clear, sunny
Tide - mid afternoon low
Wind forecast - light W/SW

Thanks Dave whether it goes or not.

Might make sense to shoot for two weeks - same tides, more notice.

I wouldn't say "organized" as he does nowadays, but he certainly had the interest and joined the group that first trip.

For the record, I approached Keith Lincoln with the idea after a frustrating day on a friend's boat down there where my friend would not drop me off on the shore. I watched another boat working leadheaded jigs on the bottom hooking up for hours while we were tossed around in the standing waves. I vowed to get on that beach - and back then SM was not connected so it required a boat ride.

Capt. Keith said someone else had asked him about getting to the tip, and gave me John's name. It was within that context that I first met John in fact, and he went on that trip with the rest of the people who signed up from this forum. I think that was the first time many of us met John, and he certainly left an impression.

Post rip trip words of wisdom uttered by Penguin while sitting around yukking it up at the CAC. A cup of coffee to whoever can decode the above.

You guys should think about finding a way to do a night rip trip. I think the moon is waxing, almost full by the 10th and the squid should be right in the wash all night long. Really Big Bass is my guess.
I wish I could come out to visit but we will be in upstate NY at a wedding and flying back to Oregon soon afterward.
Have fun

OK Fred...I'll bite..........Pete's quote refers to keeping space between fishermen when flats fishing to create lanes for fish and avoiding walls that block fish progression on the flats.

Hope I am right....I am a coffee-holic

Hopefully he was underestimating ideal distance.

I will add a quote that I have used to break up arguments between a group of people working on a project (supposedly, cooperatively)........."Bird who fly high cannot build dam with tail of beaver"

The source...the old F Troop TV show.......quote doesnt make sense...once folks realize that...I would always come in with.."neighter does what we have been doing at this meeting"...it never failed

No Ron. Actually it's an unfair question. It was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw Pete's post. Pete was on a story telling roll and had us all bent over laughing. You had to be there.

guys - with a bit more notice, I'd LOVE to to a rip trip with you. Regardless of the fishing, it would be great to meet each of you in person. Be gentle, as it would be my first time
