On a more truthful note: Oregon Public Radio today had a segment on Stripas in the Columbia River this spring. As you most likely know we have stripas out here along the west coast all the way north to Southern Oregon. But for some reason this year they came more north and along with the salmon have entered the Columbia river all the way up to Bonneville Damn. Once the salmon season opened on the river two weeks ago people started to catch stripas up to 17 pounds. OPB said it had been 27 years since a stripa had been reported caught on the Columbia. I guess there was an article last week in the Oregonian outdoor section about back drifting plugs and pulling up stripas. Some of the fishermen didn't even know what the fish were. The Native Americans from the North Christ tribe said that their gill nets have been ripped up more than other years and they think it's stripas doing the damage. Oregon Fish and game is worried about salmon and steelhead smolts migrating down river as most likely the stripas are feeding on the smolts. Don Green, president elect of "Wild Steelhead Coalition" was quoted as saying this could be the worst enviromental disaster since the damns were put in. He also said that if these stripas go up the fish ladders and become fresh water bound we all have big problems not only on the Columbia River but the Snake River and Clearwater river as well. I'll post more on this later because there will be a lot of stuff on it in the next few weeks as the salmon fishing starts to really pick up.

A group of us were clearing one of the herring runs in that area on Thursday.Pulling alot of the debris consisting of tree branches, rotting leaves, and human left debris. While raking out we came accross lots of juvenile eels 3-5" and alot of elvers[glass eels] in the upper reaches. Also lots of shrimp and chubs.:tsk_tsk: Don't just tie herring patterns for the early guys.HMMMMM!
