Good fish count.

Public radio said today that the fish count on Columbia for steelhead is 244 percent above the 10 year average. Second great year in a row. Good ocean conditions, better hatchery's and more stream water are the reasons why more wild and hatchery fish are swimming up the big one. Salmon are in record numbers too. Guess it's time to swing a fly on the Columbia where the original river course meets land and there is enough water movement to use a sinking line or a waker on top. Have found a few places in my area where one can actually fish the Columbia with a fly. That's if the wind ever stops blowing at 30 to 40 MPH.

Hey, that's good news! First good steelheading in the Deschutes typically starts after the 4th of July. I hope to get on the river very soon.

Oh Boy

Just got back from Prince of Wales Island. Fishing for early run silvers (coho) was incredible. Small fish (8 lb average) but willing and tough.
