Where were you thinking? Skagit and Sauk are closed. Passed the peak on the OP and NU. Sandy perhaps?

At this point I'd recommend waiting for fall, but certainly know what steelhead are capable of doing to a person...

If ou're think about SW Oregon ....

don't spend the money. Most SW Oregon rivers have seen what they're going to get .. and that wasn't much (so far). Fish counts on the upper Rogue (5300 and change) is close to last years, which was an all time 10 year low count.

No one is sure if the 'number' is a function of the extreme low water flows (1/3'rd of what they would normally be at this time of the year) or just 'no fish' through the counter at Gold Ray dam. Or both? Will this change that much in the next month? Doubt it.

We're considered 'high desert' here so 'mountain snow pack' is everything. The Syssies along the lower edge of Oregon/top of Nor Cal is getting dumped on. The 'snow pack' in the Cascades/Coastal range that define the other two sides of the valley, Rogue River/Applegate/Illinois/etc., drainage for future water flows .... zilch so far this year.

If you want to check the fish count into the top 30 miles of the Rogue: 800 472 2434.

Would I suggest you come here looking for winter fish? No at this time.

Thanks guys.

Actually I've done well on the OP and Columbia tribs this time of year. The masses are gone and there are some chrome late comers mixed in with the dark early fish.

Sad that the Cascades fishery is closed, but also good that we care enough to do it.

GACC Spey-O-Rama may be a good April diversion... or maybe a tarpon trip... or...

The rivers are closed because we didn't care enough to save these fish in the first place. Sorry for being negative. It is just that some people having been screaming for years that these fish are going extinct and nothing of substance was done.
