Cape Cod Chronicle piece on the Refuge

Did anyone see that ?

Monomoy got a $2 million stimulus award to upgrade the lighthouse and keepers cottage for visitors.

It also said the new refuge manager is a trout guy looking forwards to learning to saltwater fly fish !

Both good news methinks

Refuge

I saw that article and wondered what the end results of the updated "Mission" of the refuge would be. With a new director, hopefully, those that want to discourage human usage of the refuge, fishing, shell-fishing, bird watching etc: will not have quite the influence that they thought they had under the old management. Will be interesting seeing how things play out!

The use of the Rufuge is dictated by Federal law and for the time being the uses are ironclad. A new misson statement must still not run contrary to the statutory dictates and will only define the current situation so long as the basic law governing the place is not amended. The Misson statement is sort of like a regulation but not as dictatorial and may end up clarifing the uses already stated in the statute.
