Paradise Island wading help

I got talked into going on a Disney Cruise to Paradise Island for 2 days ( Grandchildren ). While they do "Disney stuff" I'm hoping to walk a beach for a few hours. I've checked out various guides and just cannot afford a guided trip this time.

I can easily pack a fly rod and/or a spinning rod & am capable of using both. I'm one of a small group of people that fly fish in Aruba for Bones, Snook and small Tarpon.

Does anyone have any knowledge of where I self guide myself on Paradise I? I have no problem taking a taxi to get to a destination. I understand there are some freshwater lakes that " used to have tarpon".

Since I have no knowledge I'm not sure if I could just walk along Atlaantis Beach and site cast like I do in Aruba.

This trip is in late January.

Thanks for any help

I did take a guide when I went one year with my wife and kids....But we stayed at the Atlantis... and for two of those mornings I got up at dwan and actually fished the beaches along side the Atlantis and had a great time.... Caught several small bonefish and qite a few Jacks which would cruise the beaches.... I only fished for about two hours each morning as the rest of the day was accounted for. Good luck.

Get a copy of the book, The Bahamas Fly-fishing Guide, by Stephen & Kim Vletas. It includes narratives, photos and maps of flyfishing all the islands, including New Providence. There are bonefish on the south side of the island. It is a long taxi ride from Atlantis.

Smile paradise island wading trip

Thanks for the reply's & information. I'll be off the ship as early as they will let me and fish for a few hours before re-joining the family for the day. A win win!

I found out yesterday we are also visiting a Private island, castaway Cay, formally known as Gorda Cay. Most if it is un-developed and we will be there for an entire day.

Now back to reality...I'm going Steelhead fishing tomorrow in Oswego County NY.

Cold, Since you did not get any responses from the bonefish "experts" on the Forum I suggest you do a "search" with the key words and I beleive you know how to do a search on this Forum. You know the key words. I am fairly certain that there are threads on that location and you might find valuable info on that other Island. Jim Sims info should be good and It would be a good book to have anyway and give you something to read as you make your cruise. Good luck.

Captn Keith talked about shoals of bonefish there on his cruise to Castaway Cay. I've heard similar from other Disney Cruise passengers over the years and have flown over the island, it's gonna have bones.

Check this out - I'd find this and go in the morning on a rising tide lookin' for silver tails...

Castaway Cay

Juro, thanks for posting the picture of Serenity Beach. I'll have an 8 hour day to explore & fish. I'll have to take the tides as they come.

Paradise Island wading help

I've got my gear ready and am looking forward to the day on the beach. It sure will be a change of weather. I just spent 4 hours on a local catch & release Trout stream. It was snowing the entire time and I landed 2 out of 3 Browns to 18' on a 3 wt. The highlight of the day was a Walleye, probably 5 pounds + that I lost because the head would not fit into the net. I was using sucker spawn flies.
