Here's Mud in Your Eye: Salmon Adapting to Dams

_The Oregonian_ this morning points to a newly discovered trait among some fall-race Chinook to over-summer/winter in the Columbia pools rather than out-migrate to the ocean at their usual time. This gives some selective advantage to these smolts, being larger, etc.

See article: http://www.oregonlive.com/environmen...lmon_evol.html

I expect the various agencies to run eagerly with this ball, giving a pass yet again to the Snake River dam complex.

... while they lose a salt year off their normal life cycle! Forced mutation is not preservation. Next thing you know they'll all be jacks. If I see so much as one attempt at a positive spin by hydro, aluminum, timber or other private counter-interests on this topic I will puke

thanks for alerting us Eric

I can see it now a wave of new dam construction throughout the west to enhance these new fish to better adapt the enviroment to this "brave new world".
